About the Program:
Spicewood Country School was established in 1980 to offer something special in child care. Its unique settings, with grazing horses on the grounds, creates the atmosphere of a friendly farm while close to the heart of city life.
The program was designed to meet the needs of the whole child, through the areas of human development – intellectual, emotional, physical, and social – and to ready them in these areas for entrance into public and private schools.
Spicewood Country School’s preschool program, for children ages 2-5, was designed by educators to meet the needs of the whole child. Using a multisensory approach, we guide them through the areas of human development – intellectual, emotional, physical and social – to ready them in these areas for entrance into kindergarten.
Our preschool features:
- A relaxed, happy atmosphere with a chance to experience a bit of country life and barnyard animals
- Planned units of study, changed yearly, taught by qualified and caring teachers
- Close communication with parents
- Music and movement instruction 3 days a week
- Spanish classes provided on Wednesday and Thursday
- A daily outdoor/learning program
- Special event days and concerts
- Teachers trained in Zoo-phonics and Handwriting Without Tears
- Small classes with balanced activities and many opportunities for creativity and self-expression
Experiences with animals, music, Spanish and an outdoor learning program, enhance an excellent curriculum of planned units and themes that are changed yearly. Spicewood has truly had a positive impact on the learning and self-esteem of thousands of Austin's children, and stays full by the recommendation of their proud parents.
