Camp Vamanos | Paper Pinecone
Details
Facility Type:
Before/After School Care
About the Program:
After play time at Brentwood Park, we walk together from the park to my house in the Crestview neighborhood near the fire station (I carry backpacks in my wagon). This gives the kids two and a half miles of walking every week, and it’s an adventure every day! They get to take their time most days, and this allows for a lot of natural discovery and engagement with their neighborhood. At the beginning of this semester, we began playing Game of Village on Wednesday afternoons. Village is a wonderfully fun and educational way to learn about the world by creating “peeps” (characters) who must be clothed and housed and who must work. There is Village money and a trading post where one’s material needs can be obtained, and everyone has a job. It’s great collaborative, hands-on learning about how the world works, and Cheryl Kruckeberg, of Game of Village Austin, is our guide on this adventure.
