About the Program:
At Orchard Street Preschool, our classroom is child-directed in order to stimulate development through creative play
choices. The environment is structured with hands-on learning centers to facilitate small, informal group learning as
well as children working individually. In addition, group time activities are offered several times a day to help foster
large group skills and a sense of community.
Our educational philosophies are based primarily upon these NAEYC findings as well as a respect for the giants of
Early Childhood including, Montessori, Piaget and Elkind.
At our core, Orchard Street Preschool provides a safe, nurturing environment where children can grow physically,
cognitively, socially and emotionally in a natural environment. We serve children between the ages of twelve months
and five years. At OSP we work to address the wide range of interests and needs of our children through individual
and small group learning experiences. Our curriculum is based on Massachusetts State Frameworks and the premise
that young children learn best through direct experiences with their world rather than through abstract rules and
concepts. Through ongoing interactions with adults and other children, children develop important social language
and cognitive skills.
