About the Program:
The Joy Picus Child Development Center is located within City Hall South in downtown Los Angeles. This center is contracted with the City of Los Angeles which gives enrollment priority to families employed by the City of Los Angeles. The center also serves families that live and work around the downtown Los Angeles area. The Joy Picus center's curriculum is emergent, incorporating elements of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math (STEAM.) The classroom teachers conduct developmental assessments twice a year that require family participation. It is through these assessments, classroom observations and family interactions that teachers develop a developmentally appropriate and meaningful curriculum for the children. The center is accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC.) This center has maintained accreditation in good standing for over 4 years. The center is also licensed by the California Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing Division (CCLD.)

Wait List & Priority Enrollment Details:
Priority for enrollment is given to families waiting for child care in the following order. - Siblings of children currently enrolled in a classroom. - City of Los Angeles Employees - Community Families (Families employed by the State or County and private employers) Families on the waiting list are informed when there is space available for their child. There are many variables involved in making it possible to predict exactly how long a family may wait for an opening. Therefore, you may be given an approximate amount of time to be expected to wait, when childcare may be available. There are many reasons why the expected time can be decreased or increased. Please speak to the center director, and understand that you may need to put your child's name on many waiting list applications.
