About the Program:
The Brookline Schools Staff Children's Center is a parent cooperative center serving infants, toddlers, and preschoolers of Brookline school employees and the Brookline community. We value strong relationships among children, teachers, and parents as a foundation for learning. Play is the basis of our program, through which children become skilled, joyful learners and confident individuals.
BSSCC is a cooperative school. Families contribute throughout the school year in a variety of ways. Parents take part in two "work days" a year to improve the physical space, attend two center-wide evening meetings, and various social and fundraising gatherings such as the fall Fun Fair and classroom get-togethers. Every family volunteers for one “parent job” based on experience, skills, and preferences. There is a strong sense of community among the families at the center that is deepened by the dedication of parents to the running of the program. This level of engagement greatly enhances the quality of BSSCC.
